Vanuatu Bound

This blog commences, (in a probable intermittent fashion) with an upcoming winter trip to the Pacific....

After months of lead in time, health checks, vaccinations, training and background research, I'm off next week to a 3 month winter VSA assignment in Vanuatu. Leaving a NZ winter to the warmth of the tropics, is appealing, although there will be inevitable challenges with the heat, mozzies and some elements of the work itself.....

I will be heading from the Nelson winter

To Malekula Island in Vanuatu

The purpose of this brief assignment is to assist village based tourist adventure tour operations improve the safety management of their activities, to reduce risk for participants, and to assist them to meet standards set by the Vanuatu Department of Tourism.
These activities, undertaken on Malekula and Ambrym Islands, range from multiday jungle walks staying in villages, to waterfall walks, outrigger canoe journeys and volcano treks - so there should be never a dull moment over the next few months!
